Nikki Taylor — Owner
I settled in Pagosa Springs, Co. 1996. I chose Pagosa because of the intense natural beauty which surrounds our community. The natural world has since I can remember, been my place of greatest solitude; the herds of elk, the variety of birds, the groves of aspen and snow caps peaks which grace our county represent to me the magnificence of this world. It is my belief that mankind is intended to co-exist with our natural environment, that it is our social responsibility to live in harmony and with respect for all of nature. It is with this conviction that I chose to further my education and experience in sustainable and green building design. My focus certainly continues to be green interior design as the bulk of my education and experience is so focused, and good health is my passion. In current design practices however, a much greater emphasis is placed on the “Integral Design Process” bringing associated project professionals together at the projects conception. Consequently, through my continued education, I became well versed in sustainable design and green construction material options from ground breaking to turn key. This has provided me the ability to consult clients on environmentally friendly options throughout all phases of the design/build or renovation process.

Various Projects
The Fort
The project which encouraged greater learning regarding sustainable and green design in 2006. This large home had many phases of construction and offered innumerable challenging design considerations.

Triangle Lake Project
A very beautiful off grid residential project on large acreage. The owners are extremely chemically sensitive; each material used was carefully scrutinized and great care was taken to use local craftsmen and materials whenever possible. This project has been considered to receive certification from The Living Building Challenge.

An Affordable Housing Project
A Northwest inner city project with extremely limited funds. We were able to provide 4 interior finish options for buyers, all of which were environmentally safe for children and pets; those who are the most exposed and susceptible to hundreds of common chemicals found in households today. Emphasis was placed from the onset of construction on recycling and reusing materials whenever possible. Each buyer was provided a one on one consultation informing them of the importance of continuous use of natural cleaning and maintenance related products.

Chiropractic Office Renovation
Originally a bank building, it was gutted and all interior and exterior finishes used in the renovation process fell under green parameters. Natural clay was used on the walls with natural stone and bamboo flooring, Marmoleum countertops, and no VOC wood stains. Cleaning products used continue to be environmentally friendly, all to create an incredibly warm and healthy clinic environment.

Residental PV Syste
A pole mounted system for an off grid project servicing a large Pacific Northwest property.

Community Garden Project
A lovely community garden in an older and very high end section of Seattle. Gardens such as this are increasingly dotting inner town/city sites providing locals with the pleasure of personal cultivation, community involvement, and healthy eating. Indigenous
landscaping with organic gardens, year round greenhouses, and water catchment systems are increasingly becoming a part
of the overall home and community design visions.

Reed Wall System
Used to replace the application of drywall in green homes. Finishing possibilities include natural clay, lime, or earthen plasters. Often the finished product is less expensive then conventional wall systems and creates an amazingly warm interior space with no chemical off gassing.

Nikki’s Home
Owner designed and built utilizing passive solar gain, thermal mass, stacked ventilation with an open floor plan, and three canines ruling the roost! Natural finishes were used when possible and only natural cleaning products can be found in the cabinets. Landscaping has been kept indigenous and wildlife migration paths were carefully considered during site planning.
